WIW two takes on the double denim formula **Afternoon Update pictures!

I am feeling a little bit masculine in this outfit today, I guess it didn't help that I had to stop at home depot this morning and this was also the uniform of choice for the contractors. The jacket in the first trial felt too short so I went with the longer bf jacket in two. Please vote for you favorite and tell me why you think it works or not.

Yay: first try
Nay: second try

Update: Something didn't feel right about either of these. I added bright cognac boots and a natural belt. These seemed to pull the look together for me.

You look fantastic! Urban and fab.

There is nothing wrong with looking masculine - not that you do :). You are so pretty, smiley and bubbly Rita, nothing can ever take away from that with respect to your style. So rock on Home Depot Girl!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

You so do NOT look masculine. You look darling in both and I really like that scarf!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Home Depot Girl! Love it! But you were WAY better looking than the contractors!!!

I think both of these work but if you're forcing me to pick one, I would go with the second look. I find the longer jacket with the shirt makes you look so long and lean.

I had a hard time choosing. I guess I'm not feeling the love for the denim on denim look - I mean, there are some that work okay, and these certainly aren't bad, but it still seems to work best (for me) only when the bottoms are very dark denim and the top is light. And when there is some feminine added touch. I have a polka dot chambray shirt that is a bit lighter and it seems okay with dark jeans but I think the added "girly" touch of the polka dots is what makes it work better for me. It is the *only* think in my closet with polka dots I should add so it's not like I'm into frill or anything.

I like masculine looks on women, so maybe you won't like this suggestion.....but #2 would look great pushed a little more masculine with a long red or orange tie, or a long thin red/orange scarf knotted like a tie. Put it around your neck against your skin rather than the collar.

You are so naturally feminine looking, it would be difficult for you to look masculine, and you certainly don't look like a workman!

    Great outfit!

I honestly like them both. And you don't look the least bit masculine.

  • Abie replied 12 years ago

I like them both. I think both jackets work well, but I love the scarf addition in the first one. I don't think they look too masculine because the pieces fit well and your shape comes through.

  • Nakidra replied 12 years ago

I love them both. You look powerful and confident! I dont think you look masculine at all!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

I love your style, Rita. Every time you post, I end up with a big smile on my face.

I'm surprising myself by saying this, because I usually love scarves, but I prefer the second version on you. It's more streamlined.

  • Ginny replied 12 years ago

I don't see masculine , no way, you are too cute for that to happen! :-) i like both and the scarf in 1 is a great color, but if I had to choose, i like #2 I think it is for the same reason as Shannon said, it gives a longer leaner line on you.

  • rae replied 12 years ago

I like #2 the best - I think the longer jacket looks better over the skinnies. If you want to go nuts, you could tie a bright scarf muffler style to add a little color. Not masculine, but menswear-inspired!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

I forgot to mention that I like both #1 and #2.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

Rita, you look great, and I like both versions. I think maybe the shirt's volume isn't held in check as much as you might wish with #1 and/or it is the proportion with that jacket that may feel a bit off...I would probably do the unthinkable and tuck, but that might not work either if the jacket is too short. Anyway, I like it regardless, and really like the scarf.

But I LOVE #2 because it is streamlined and you are making me want a denim shirt so I can copy it ASAP!

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

Modgrl, both versions are MOTG perfection! If you get a masculine vibe (I like to say androgynous instead!), I feel like a pop of colourful shoes will do the trick! (Red? Metallic flats? Your wedges?)

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

I'm wearing the second one today, hubby said he liked it but only after giving it a critical up and down look-over. So I'm not so sure if he really liked it or maybe thought it was not work appropriate? If I do this again I will probably try it with my cognac boots, a natural leather belt, and definitely lipstick.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

I also like both, but I REALLY like #2 :) I think adding cognac boots/natural leather belt might make it even more rugged and mensy, unless of course the boots are heeled.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I think both are fab! Maybe hubby was just checking you out in an admiring way :)?

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

It looks great.. I think I prefer version 1 with the scarf for the color it adds.

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

I think you look great! The look may be masculine bit you make it very sift and feminine:). I think both jackets work equally well.

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

I've noticed that all of us who've tried this look are stuck on the scarf trick. It's lovely and I think once we retrain the eyes we can free ourselves from it. That said I like both versions - nicely done.

  • shipskitty replied 12 years ago

I like both but I think my fav is #2 with the longer jacket.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I am still tweaking this outfit. I added a few photos with this afternoon's updates.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

And what a KILLER job you did!

  • taylor replied 12 years ago

I really like them both for their different vibe! I agree that you are so very feminine you really don't look masculine at all, in fact I like a little masculine edge in some outfits!
    Good work!:)

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Rita, I have never seen a darling contractor....you are so lovely in all four looks!

  • Debora replied 12 years ago

Rita, you have this down pat and cracked me up with your Home Depot reference! I, too, prefer the longer jacket and flipped over #2. The added tweaks are great, too, for when you want to change it up. Well done!
