WIW my heart will always belong to the mini

I know midi's are taking over this year but at least on me, my heart will always belong to the mini. This is the express overlapping stripes skirt. It feels so 80's, like coming home to find an old friend who hasn't changed a bit. I'm pretty sure the length of the skirt would be obscene on a normal height person but it feels just right on me. Worn with my nordie's bp cardi, target polka dot scarf, bandolino heeled boots and Dotty for the final graphic touch.

Vote with your heart please, no hard feelings!

Yay: length is short but fine on me
Nay: too short for work, possibly dated length

I can't really comment untill I have seen you seated ;-) If you are standing all day, I vote a Yay.
I have a couple of winter dresses of that length. I wear them with a pair of tights close to their colour. I need to because I am petite.

  • kimlee replied 12 years ago

This look gets a big YAY from me. The fun pattern of the skirt combined with the brillant color of the cardi is a KILLER combination.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

I am fine to sit in it. I think the black opaque tights help with the length issue when sitting down. I don't think I could wear this skirt to work with bare legs.

  • Emily replied 12 years ago

That skirt looks great on you. The length is pushing too short, but I think the tights save it. Yay!

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

That's one awesome outfit! Love the prints and colours together, Rita, and it certainly helps that the black continues from your hair to your scarf to the stripe to your tights and boots, elongating and unifying everything.

  • Diana replied 12 years ago

Great look, Rita. I think the skirt would be too short for bare legs/sandals but is perfect with tights/boots. Love the stripes and dots together too!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

I think it looks really cute how you are wearing it there.

  • rute replied 12 years ago

OMG! so pretty! Love the colors!!!

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

This is a cute outfit. I think the skirt is fine with hose.

  • harmonica replied 12 years ago

Looks great and the tight makes a good cover-up so that you don't get too exposed for woork. I love that skirt length

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

You look great! I agree, the hose help--at least as far as work goes. I bet you could get away with bare legs on the weekend though!

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

Super skirt, Rita! It looks fantastic on you. Whole outfit is great.

I think it works with tights for your work environment, but would not work bare-legged (except on the weekend).

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

I think this looks great Rita! We shorties can get away with shorter skirts and with the tights, I don't think it's in appropriate at all. I agree it wouldn't be great at work with bare legs, but in every other instance, it would be fine. I also find it very figure flattering on you.

Love the pattern mixing with the stripes of the skirt and Miss Dotty and I think it's so fun how the scarf is black with white polka dots and Dotty is white with black polka dots! The addition of the blue cardi adds a punch of colour. A fabulous outfit!

    I love it!

  • Jilly replied 12 years ago

I vote a definite yay. Being 5'4" and short-waisted, I've always looked better in shorter skirts than longer ones. For work, the tights definitely make.the skirt workable. Love the pattern mix!

  • celia replied 12 years ago

I am also on the 5'4'' wagon and although midis are the rage I prefer skirts a little bit above my knee.

I voted yay, because I think it looks totally apropriate in you, it comes out more as a play in porportions than you trying to show off some leg.

And my I say I fab your outfit is? The pattern mix is fenomenal and i really like the black/white/blue combo.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Wow, looks great on you! You rock mini skirts! Love the tiered stripes! It's a black and white tiered stripe day around here! The tights definitely keep it appropriate for work but you would look great bare legged for the weekend.

  • Ioana replied 12 years ago

    Love the dress

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 12 years ago

Gorgeous look for you. I love the color and pattern and don't think the skirt is too short for you. You are rocking it Rita.

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

This outfit simply rocks. I agree that we shorties can get away with mini-skirts without looking "obscene" - LOL! With tights and tall boots, it looks perfect. Barelegged, it would be ULTRA casual and DEFINITELY not elegant or work-worthy, IMHO.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Super cute! I'm gonna have to try styling my B44 striped dress that way with the cardi and scarf!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

This looks fab on you! The tights keep it work-appropriate for sure. Welcome 80s! I am feeling too exposed in skirts at this length now myself, but since you love it, you should rock it.

  • rae replied 12 years ago

I love it on you - almost makes me wish I'd kept a similarly striped dress from Target. Ah, well, at least I can enjoy vicariously! You look great!

  • Sara L. replied 12 years ago

I'm with you in that I prefer shorter skirts. I have a few midi's but I like my above the knee skirts better. I use the fingertip rule if I'm unsure of the length - if the skirt is shorter than my fingertips when I'm standing up straight with my arms at my side - it's too short. I think your tights make the skirt work appropriate and it will be a fun weekend outfit in the summer with bare legs and flat sandals.

  • Aziraphale replied 12 years ago

Love it! Not too short! It looks fabulous on you.

I think short women can get away with mini-er minis -- partly because of proportions, and partly because a short skirt simply covers more real estate than on a tall woman. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway. I plan on wearing minis indefinitely! If I get to the point where I start to feel a bit bare, I'll just wear them with opaque tights.

No reason why a petite gals like you and me can't rock the midis and the minis!

  • Isis replied 12 years ago

I think its appropriate with tights for work, and it looks great!

  • citygirldc replied 12 years ago

Well you look great and the tights are good for work.

  • raclar replied 12 years ago

Yay! And I love the graphic black and white with that blue color!

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

Fabulous skirt, Modgirl! I love it with tights and think it's appropriate for work. I agree with you that it might not be work appropriate with bare legs, but I definitely think you could wear it casually just fine. I like shorter skirts, too.

  • teri replied 12 years ago

wow, a great option to copy with mt whbm skirt

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

This is one great outfit, Rita! I am sure it is noe outdated either: all skirts I have seen in Paris last week were on the short side! :-)

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

You *know* I am all about the mini, too! Thumbs up. This is work appropriate with the hosiery but likely not without it, as others have noted. I am also shorter, and short waisted, and find minis don't look obscene on us as they might on a 5'8" model. That said, I am moving away from the 15" toward 17" and 18" and feel it's more of a 'sweet spot' on me.

  • christieanne replied 12 years ago

Midis are the hot trend but a terrific short mini or basic pencil will always be in style. Love how you styled it!

  • cciele replied 12 years ago

Big yay from me! Definitely works with the tights and boots. I'm a big fan of the mini too -- I can't remember the last time I wore a midi or maxi.

  • replied 12 years ago

The picture shows a little small, but I think the skirt is too short for work, to my eye. I love the outift, however.

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

You look fantastic and perfectly modern.

  • nicoleb replied 12 years ago

Looks lovely to me but my heart belongs to the mini as well ;)

  • san replied 12 years ago

You look great. I believe that Angie has said in the past that minis work on petites. Maybe something to search in the files.

  • replied 12 years ago

I love the entire outfit on you Rita, the blue, the stripes with Dotty and the boots. The only thing I might change is to swap out the sheer black hose for opaque black tights. Then there is no question of appropriateness.

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

LOVE! What a fun outfit. You look fab!

  • Vicki replied 12 years ago

Rita, this length works fine on you, especially with the tights. Love seeing Dotty and all these pieces together. I voted Yay and it was with my heart.

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

It's borderline lengthwise for work (OK with tights and flat boots) but not dated. Cute and with a more covered blazer (and the existing foot/legwear) could be fine in work for me.

  • Mochi replied 12 years ago

I love this whole outfit. The skirt looks the perfect length to me.

  • replied 12 years ago

    That skirt is really cute.
