WIW something old and something new

This is a combination I've been wearing a lot lately. I'm really enjoying the look of a short cropped jacket over a longer tunic. This is the first time I'm wearing the caramel jacket with matisse booties, even though this is just the pairing I had in mind when I bought the jacket. The pants are new from my mini meetup with Janet at the Rack in Annapolis. They are a new shape for me, not too wide and not skinnies. I thought they'd be a nice change for work. Also new here is another target boys button down shirt in white. Hope you like, suggestions happily accepted! Have a great day!!

Love this combination! The jacket and the booties were made for each other. I am really liking the short jacket over the tunic!

I love it, Rita! What about a scarf or necklace for a pop of color?

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

I can't make out the shape of the pants really well, but they look nice with everything else. Great jacket and booties combination. I like the short over long too and it would work great with skinnies. I would like to see the top a little more fitted (but still love that you wear Target Boys' shirts! genius)

Laura, I thought they might work together but I was kind of worried that it would be too much safari with the leather jacket and animal booties. Glad you think it works!

Nakidra, I am wearing a locket but maybe it's too small scale if you can't see it. I can try some kind of a scarf next time but I like the simplicity here too.

Lovely combination! I can see why you thought of those shoes for that jacket!

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

I love the short over long look on you! Very chic :-)

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Jeanne, the best part about these shirts is that they get dry cleaned along with the mens' shirts.

Rita, this is a great look! Effortless chic in my book. Proportions are perfect...all very flattering. I would simply add a longer, bigger pendant as the one you are wearing disappears a bit. Simplicity at it's best...lovely.

Yes, very simple yet chic. What shoes are these? loafers?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Very chic look without a lot of "fuss". I didn't know you had the Matisse booties - they are so gorgeous. I think they work really well together without looking too safari, as you put it.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

    LOVE!

This is a good Autumn outfit too.

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

Love this, Rita! The minimalism of the shirt and dark pants really highlight the jacket, which made me notice the shoes right away, even though they are slightly covered by your trouser leg. This outfit is classic with a fun twist. I really, really love this. You look fantastic! Also, is that your dad's watch you're wearing?

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Mona, they are Angie's Matisse booties in leopard. A lot of use fell hard for these booties.

Shannon, the simplicity is one of the things that I love about this combo. For the last two years we have been wearing so many layers of cardigans, cami's, belts, layers of necklaces, and scarves. It was so many things to think about while getting dressed in the morning, and so much fussing involved throughout the day. I like that this is just 3 pieces and I am done.

Angie, I can see wearing something like this in the fall. You've converted me to white. I was scared of it before but now it feels like the perfect thing to perk up an outfit year round.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

I'm starting to feel the same way as you Rita with respect to too many pieces being too fussy. This is why I'm in love with wearing a dress with a jacket/cardi on top and shoes and that's it. I'm finding your outfits very inspiring with how fantastic they look with fewer pieces.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Ana, thanks for noticing all of that! I'm still wearing my MK watch, which also reminds me of my dad in lots of ways. First of all it is my dad's initials. Also, it is not a "real" watch and I'm sure he would be really angry with me for wearing it, which is kind of amusing at this point. I'm on the lookout for a new band for the Omega, but I need to find a reputable watchmaker first.

This iz the easy chic that i aspire. No fuss, clear tailored lines.
    you look Fab.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

I like it! I think you are channelling Sveta! Very sleek and strong.

  • Jaime replied 12 years ago

Don't like it LOVE it. The outfit picks up all the colors in the boots!

  • Vicki replied 12 years ago

I love this look on you, Rita (my shoe twin), and the jacket (color and shape) inspires your clean, classic look in such a modern way. So funny with your anecdote about your Dad thinking it wouldn't be a "real" watch. Yours still looks very pretty here. Re: your pants, I like yours, and have been meaning to find more to wear than my skinnies (Three pairs are at the tailor with hems being lowered). What brand are they? Thanks.

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

I am LOVING you in the short-over-long looks! I need to find a long button-down - this is such a edgy and classy look.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

    This is just stellar, Rita!

And may I say that your tip about the Target boys' shirts has changed my life!!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Yes, simplicity! I hardly even wear jewelry - I used to call it laziness, but simplicity is so much better. I am aiming for this too, just in a more cohesive way than I historically have been able to accomplish.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Vicki - they are Andrea Chelsea brand pants. I've never heard of them. It lucked out at the Rack. I found two pairs of perfect black work pants, this pair and the pair of widelegs that I posted last week. They are a nice change up from all of the super skinnies I've been wearing lately.

  • replied 12 years ago

I haven't read all of the comments, but the proportions look very Sveta-esque to me. I am totally crazy about this on you! So strong, simple and fab! Love the booties, love the jacket. *sigh* I think I copied you subconsciously the other day when I threw a cropped jacket over a longer shirt with jeans. Well, I tried anyway! See how you influence me?

  • replied 12 years ago

I love this! Is this the first outing of the booties? I own those Matisse booties in the dalmatian print and I have not worn them once....

  • Makrame replied 12 years ago

This is a great combo! The boys shirt is amazing as a tunic - looks nice and crisp.

  • Carole replied 12 years ago

Very creative, fun and flattering outfit! I wish I could see more of the booties, but from what I can see they look awesome.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Zap, the booties have been out alot this winter. Angie and other taller ladies wear them with skirts and dresses but they don't really work that way for me. I usually wear them with either my red or black jeans or my black ponte pants. I don't post every outfit, especially if it is a repeat. I don't want to bore the heck out of everyone here.

Carole, the booties are short, they come right to the ankle, just above the pant hem. They are perfect for tucking skinnies into or draping wider pants over.

Makrame, the boys shirts have been a fun addition to my wardrobe. They turned out to be the perfect tunic length for me and seem to go with everything.

Wonderful proportions! Between this and Claire's collarless jacket with a buttoned up plaid shirt, I have some new ideas to consider! Wonder if this line would work with a black peplum jacket (WHBM) and a white longish shirt? And next there's the rich cognac and black -- so richly textured, and nicely accented with the leopard booties.

    Great post!

    I really like it
