WIW - Debuts of my NYC YLF Meetup loot

Two important debuts of my NYC loot!

1) Here are the Angie approved Taupe Miz Mooz boots!! They are comfy and super soft supple leather. The woven top was the only Missoni piece left at my Target. The geometric pattern goes perfectly with my NAS statement pendant and the colors work with the purple magenta seamed skirt.

2) Leather obi belt used to liven up a favorite golden oldie dress.

I am loving my new pieces and I'd love to hear your feedback and styling suggestions. Thanks for looking!

Those boots are fabulous and the second outfit is great too.

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

TERRIFIC loot! I love those boots!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Awesome boots, however I am not loving the overall outfit. I can't believe Im saying this but I think it's the black jacket that is not working for me. Do you have something else you could try that maybe picks up the color of the boots or isn't as heavy looking as the jacket. The peices themselves are fabulous, I think its just the jacket. #2 is STUNNING, if you ever tire of the dress please send it to me :) I love the obi belt too, I find that style of belt often just adds the little something you are looking for in an outfit... I have one on today too.

  • MNsara replied 12 years ago

Wow - those boots are wonderful and fit you so beautifully in height and no gap! You're petite - how did you get that height so right?

Love how that Missoni blouse slides right into your outfit ;-) The only detail I might change would be to unbutton the cuffs and fold them back over the 3/4 sleeves, then scrunch up both sleeves.

Great dress w/obi and that jacket! Is it coral? Whatever color, it looks SO good with black & white!

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

@Deborah, I see what you mean about the jacket... you don't think the white in the top is enough bookending? I'm really not even trying to bookend the boots, I think I'm going to just wear them as their own piece and pretend they are nude pumps.

  • crazyone replied 12 years ago

Rita, I'm with Deborah. Love the boots, don't really love the outfit as the black is too heavy for the boots. #2 is KILLER, I think it's one of my favorite outfits from you ever!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

KILLER x2. The boots could not be more perfect.

Rita, you are a fun and effervescent bundle of bubbly joy. I LOVED meeting and spending time with you in NYC :)

  • DressLover replied 12 years ago

I absolutely adore those boots! The belt is also a great, versatile find.

I love the Missoni blouse but I am not sure about the pairing with the cropped jacket. I would prefer not to see that much of the blouse sleeves, but my aesthetic preference tends to be a less layered one. If it doesn't bother you, rock it!

  • Erin replied 12 years ago

    Those boots are perfection!

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

I think you look great in both.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

@Angie! I'm so glad you approve of the styling! I'm having so much fun with these pieces. It was truly my pleasure to meet you in person and I am so grateful that you set aside a day for us. What a great day in the city with my YLF family!

  • christy replied 12 years ago

Oh wow - I'm green with envy over those Miz Mooz boots! I LOVE them. Tucking into that skirt with those boots make your legs look a mile long! It would probably make the outfit more casual than you want, but I'd love to see #1 with a denim jacket too. Love the styling of the Obi belt in #2 - it looks great with that dress and the pop of color with that jacket is terrific!

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Oh, Rita!!! I LOVE your new boots. LOVE. LOVE. They suit you perfectly. Did I mention LOVE?! Hooray for your MFT blouse! I love it with the skirt and the jacket. Have fun with that blouse!!! Your new obi belt is awesome, too!

  • Ginny replied 12 years ago

So glad you had fun, i love the boots, they are fab!!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Lovely! Are those the Flynn boots? I had those in taupe bookmarked to try out and if these are them, goodness they look amazing!

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

@Aida, yes those are the boots. They are better in person. I wasn't too excited when I saw them online but they are really sweet! They're just a little taller in the front than in the back, that makes them work on a shorter person. I would size down if they made my size. The heel is pretty high, so order the size you would wear in pumps.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

Wow. Those boots are amazing on you! SCORE! You really do look as if your legs are a mile long.

I see what others are saying re: the dark jacket. I think I might prefer the boots with a less dramatically toned outfit overall. But they are spectacular and if they are comfortable, too, well, yeah, why NOT wear them like nude pumps?

As for outfit 2, my first thought was BOMBSHELL! You look just stunning. LOVE the belt.

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

`Those boots are gorgeous! I'm in agreement with Deborah that the black jacket is a bit heavy for the rest of the color scheme. Do you have a lighter color jacket?
That obi belt looks like a great versatile piece. What fun to have gotten to shop with Angie!

  • ironkurtin replied 12 years ago

You live in NYC and have a staircase...? (Sorry, I slipped back into my NYC real-estate-coveting persona - I'm looking past the clothes to all of the SPACE!)

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

(Thanks for the info Rita! Hopefully I can order a pair to try soon!)

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

No, we're not in NYC! I traveled 3 hrs for the meetup :)
Totally worth it for a YLF day!

No real estate envy needed, we live in a tiny house!

  • rae replied 12 years ago

I don't mind the black jacket, and I LOVE those boots!

Is it bad that I sort of wish I had lighter skin JUST so I could wear those as a nude, like you? They are *that* awesome on you.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

@Rae, you could get this look with any shade of cognac, there are so many gorgeous options out there!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

@Rita, the pleasure was all mine.

I like the way the black jacket works with your hair in that outfit, Rita. I also love that you bought two fairly pricey and good quality items that day and are REALLY working them :)

  • teri replied 12 years ago

I'm in LOVE with #2... I would sooooo wear that entire outfit!!!!!

  • cjh replied 12 years ago

Great styling of the print blouse, Rita! I like the black jacket very much myself, but you could try the rolling/scrunching suggestion and see if that works, too. Great boots!

The obi belt cinches your waist to absolutely miniscule! LOVE it and the dress, too. You look fantastic.

  • Carole replied 12 years ago

Both outfits are gorgeous. Love the boots in 1 and we are target blouse twins. The second outfit is amazing.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

It would kinda be ALGO but I think the thing that's missing from #1 is a belt... I think it would pull it all together. I'm going to try a gold chain belt next time and see how this works. Thanks YLF for continuing to push my style each and every day.

Angie, one of my style goals is "less but better." It's hard because of the sticky fingers at home and the only place I usually have time to shop is Target but I am working on it!! I'm really happy with my NYC pieces. They were a bit of a spur of the moment splurge but I am not looking back, just having fun with them.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

    FAB!!

I don't have the Missoni blouse, but I have something similar-ish and I plan to copy look #1 the minute the weather cooperates! Just love it!!! And the obi belt? Amazing!!

My hat is off to you for the high-quality splurge items! I tend to buy fewer, cheaper pieces, and the times I have splurged on something fantastic, even if pricey (*cough* KS pumps *cough*) I have been super happy! Glad you are super happy, too!!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Rita, I'm having a hard time with the black jacket too - but the boots and the Missoni with the skirt are perfect. I can't open the second picture (it's taking too long) so I'll look again at the office. :)

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

Rita is was a real pleasure to meet you in NYC. And I adore both your NYC items when you purchased them and I especially like how both are styled here too. You had a very successful shopping day in NYC, and it was a lot of fun to spend time with you!

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I missed this the first time around, I guess. I really love the new pieces from NYC! I tend to agree about the taupe boots needing some sort of similar color somewhere else in the outfit (not necessarily taupe, but something else that is cool and light-colored), especially given your dark hair, but I am probably just being a fussbudget :). Love the new obi belt!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Hi Rita just thought I would pop back to say that I don't think the black jacket looks bad :). The overall outfit is very fab, it's not so much bookending as just how it appears to my eye and my perception of balance. The outfit is light and colorful and then to my eye the black jacket kinds of weighs it down. This might be a rubbish idea, but even if you were to turn the cuffs of the shirt back over the cuffs of the jacket, that could jibd of "blend" the jacket. Of course I am no expert :)

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

@Deborah, that's actually how I wore the outfit, with the cuffs turned down and no white showing. I will try another variation with some tweaks next week.
