WIW style evolution leads to breaking my own rules

Oh my! Who is that person wearing a waist surrender top AND white pants?!? Holy cow, had you asked me about these things a month ago I would have said, you must be talking about those west coasters with their laid back style. Not me. Oh no. No white pants on the east coast. And definitely no surrender. I wore this outfit a few weeks ago and my poison eye for waist surrender didn't get me then. And now I am really starting to like this style on me. With the help of some creative undergarments, I can still look like I have a shape even if I am not showing off every inch of it. I do have to keep the pants slim though. I don't think I am up for volume over volume. That would not work on me.

Oh wow! You look awesome! Is that the Gap denim shirt? I may have to try this look too. I know what you mean about waist surrender. I have a bias against it too and always want to define my waist. But you totally look great either way so maybe I should try it more! Those white pants are divine--where are they from?

FABULOUS!!! I love how you own up, Rita :)

Add Kitty or Dotty into the mix.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Angie, I had kitty with me today and I wore it with my red puffer coat. It was a fun look. I am definitely defying my environmental norm by wearing white pants AND a red coat. Wow, did I stick out amongst the black coat brigade today!

Natalie, This is the zara dot blouse we got at the YLF meet up in NY. I'm wearing Victoria's Secret white jeans that I bought by sort of accident on ebay while I was looking for a bowieball option. I didn't even remember bidding on them and suddenly they were mine. Oops! They are tight at the waist but great everywhere else. I'm going to be keeping my white jeans at disposable prices. I can see from just one spin out of the house they are already filthy. White jeans are not for the long haul!

    You look wonderful!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

Rita, your outfit sounds even better with those additions. And you defy the black puffer brigade, girlfriend!

  • christieanne replied 12 years ago

With a red coat too? Breaking the "rules" is fun isn't it?
I can still see some waist and tell you are a girl even with a non belted blouse. It is a pretty choice for wearing loose.

  • replied 12 years ago

Oh my goodness, you look wonderful here! Love this, never-surrender Rita!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

This is a great look Rita. Definitely the fit of the shirt and along with the length create the right proportions with the white pants.

  • anne replied 12 years ago

    Looking good Rita!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

You wild woman you! What I find interesting is I know you and I are the same height Rita, and yet you look so tall and leggy in this outfit. I think this is totally flattering. I love that blouse BTW!

  • rae replied 12 years ago

You defiant rebel, you! I love the look, and I'm jealous that you found such great white jeans!

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

IMO, Rita ALWAYS looks tall and leggy. That's because she IS leggy, if not tall. And she is careful with her footwear, too.

And here, fresh as spring and twice as French! I love the idea of this with a red coat!

Isn't it great to evolve? I am looking forward to the day when I can look back and see some positive growth and change!

  • Sunita replied 12 years ago

Ah...blue and white is such a classic color combination and you pull it off beautifully!

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

    Looks fabulous :)

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Before I opened this post I had my fingers crossed going "Waist surrender, waist surrender..."

AND YES! YOU HAVE DONE IT!

You look great. When you're petite, it works because it's still obvious you're petite. Yet it also flatters the not-so-petite somehow... That's my idea of perfect. :)

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

Wow! Who can notice any waist surrendering when your legs look a mile long in those white jeans?! YLF!

  • Aunty replied 12 years ago

You look fantastic, and yes your top half still shows a gorgeous shape. Love it!

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

Fab! I love this blouse on you :)

  • replied 12 years ago

I love this. That blouse was made for you.
And what gorgeous shoes are you wearing???? Are those platforms?

  • celia replied 12 years ago

"those west coasters with their laid back style":D
You look long and leggy even surrendering your waist.I can see how with the trench and bag this was an even more fabulous outfit.
Toronto is also a 'black' kind of city.I have to admit that the reason I am more comfortable wearing colorful clothes here has to do with the fact that I am a transplant from across the pond anyway. When I visit m in-laws in Paris I am not so colorful.

  • Janet replied 12 years ago

You are reminding me I need to debut my white jeans! I did promise you, after all. :-)

I love this look on you. I see this and can't understand how you ever hesitated to wear white jeans!

  • replied 12 years ago

This totally works! I love it and it's nice to see you trying some new looks. ;)

  • Mochi replied 12 years ago

Heh, Rita. I'm chuckling at your saying you don't remember bidding for the jeans on ebay...coming up with an image of someone not remembering robbing a bank while they were sleepwalking or something :)

But anyway, it's hard to believe that this is intentional rule-breaking. It looks so natural and so flattering on you. Crisp but laid-back. Excellent look to have in your style arsenal!

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the compliments! I do feel tall in this outfit. I have to wear platforms with these pants and they add to my height. I am wearing my 4" Ash Ursula wedges. They are comfy as slippers even though they are very tall. The pants are just very slightly above PPL with these shoes. But I worry that if white bootlegs actually skim the ground they would get too dirty and be unwearable. So it is an intentional choice. One of my style goals is to not wear anything that could be shortening but I don't think these are high enough to do that. I am surrendering my waistline but not surrendering my height!

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Rita, is that blouse from Zara? You are rockin' this look!!!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

I LOVE this outfit! Your blouse is amazing! You must have been quite an attention grabber with your red coat and cute outfit!

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Thanks Heather! Yes this is the Zara blouse that we got at the NYC meet up. I think a few others got it too. Zap did you keep yours or end up returning it?

  • Girl X replied 12 years ago

Love this! You look fantastic (as usual!)

Errgh - I can hear my white jeans shouting to be rescued from their storage box - I really have to do my winter to spring closet swap.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

GirlX, I only tried on this color because of you and Bella so I really have the two of you to thank for this fab purchase! Love this blouse!

  • Girl X replied 12 years ago

    Were we tag-team enabling? lol

  • replied 12 years ago

I had bought the white one. I went back and forth on it and ended up returning it. It was not an Angie approved purchase, since I did not try the smaller one for her.
I ended up with a horse head patterned one instead.
