WIW Playing with the ankle strap

I tried out my black DV Pali sandals in two different ways this week.

Yesterday I wanted to play up the ankle strap pattern. I wore slightly cropped leggings to really bring out the pattern. Cropped pants and ankle strap shoes have the potential to go horribly wrong but I think this works because It is all one color from head to toe, I emphasized my waist and wore a short skirt over slim bottoms. (Tucker for Target dress, Target cropped leggings and old handbag, DV Pali sandals)

Today I minimized the potentially shortening ankle straps by wearing pants that are low contrast with the shoes and go all the way down to the ankle strap. The dolman sleeve top was one of Angie's picks from last NAS. At first I thought it was too long but I'm glad I kept it. I am digging wearing tunic length tops over leggings these days. Plus I love dolman sleeves, even if they don't always love me. (Angie recommended top from NAS last year, ON rock star jeggings, DV Pali sandals and super old handbag )

Whether these work or not, happiness scale was a 10! Comments and suggestions always welcome!

ETA: I just realized that I ticked off Y/N and can't turn it off now! Help me pick your favorite way to wear these ankle strap sandals.

YAY: show off the straps
NAY: minimize the straps
Wildcard 1: works both ways
Wildcard 2: doesn't work either way

You got BOTH of these perfectly right Rita! I see absolutely no leg shortening at all - in fact in #2 in particular you look downright leggy and tall! These outfits are both "wear often" choices!

oooo love this... Outfit 2 is just so awesome :)

After reading all your efforts to avoid leg-shortening looks, I was ready to see some serious stumpification. Not so! These are both great looks.

Interesting how the matching leggings + THICK straps keep this from being leg shortening. Had the sandals been red, it would have been a different story.

The proportions in both outfits is working really well -- no worries, and terrific sandals!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Wildcard 1! I like both - but have a slight preference to see the straps like in 1.

I like both. I don't find it leg shortening at all!

Wildcard 1 FTW!! These look fab on you and I love both outfits!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Wildcard 1 all the way.

I LOVE those sandals!!!! Did you get them from Nordstrom's? Are they comfy? Do they come in other colours?

You have styled them brilliantly here.

Also, I think it's important to note, Rita - you may be petite, but your legs are proportionately long for your size. This makes it possible for you to wear this kind of look with impunity, as long as you exercise a little common sense (as you always do!)

Hi everyone and thanks! I really like how both turned out too, though I thoroughly enjoyed my ankle strap rebellion look with the cropped leggings. It made me smile all day long.

Suz, I'm glad you think my legs look long! It is a trick of the camera and also some very deliberate wardrobe choices that make me look almost normal height. They are actually proportionately short, just like the rest of me. I am 5' tall with a ~28" inseam, on a good day, with a slight heel :)

Wildcard 1! Looks fab both ways. I want to steal those sandals. :-)

  • celia replied 11 years ago

    Wildcard1, I think I works both ways.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

Wild card #1 for sure! GREAT sandals!

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

    Wildcard#1! both looks are winners.

I think the dolman sleeve is great on you as well.

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

Looking good. Both outfits looks great with those shoes.

  • fern replied 11 years ago

I voted Nay because I prefer #2, but really you look great in both pics-

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I'd never have guessed that, Rita. I thought you were built like Dianthus, who is not super tall (I believe she is 5' 5") but whose legs are proportionately long for her size. So she always LOOKS tall, even in flats.

So you must really be clever about the way you dress!

I think both work, and after seeing the thick ankle strap on my own legs with those Ejects, the key seems to be not to wear a tiny ankle strap that will make your ankle look big by comparison, but rather an oversized one that makes you look delicate. What think you?

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

I don't know Una! I stared at your eject sandals for a long time trying to figure out why they worked too. I think having a high heel really helps. Also, they were very slim around the ankle. I think this part is key.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Your happiness scale matches your outfits - both 10's :)

    Wildcard 1.

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

I like them BOTH equally well! Wildcard 1.
