WIW dotty's second day on the job

I'm trying out some more advanced pattern mixing with the hectic geometric pattern blouse and the polka dot bag. I thought it worked because the shirt had some lighter toned spots in it, but my male coworker thought it was TMGO. How about you?

Oh no, Rita. I think this is PERfect. Silly man does not know how fab you are, obviously! I lurve Dotty with this gorgeous floral. The vest makes the whole thing super-fun. You look truly FAB!

ETA: I'm sorry, I thought your blouse was a modern floral. I didn't realize it was geometric. My bad!

This is fab I like the way the black in the top and dotty's spots are tied together by the black boots and vest x

Your male coworker is still in the kindergarden style-wise. You, however, have graduated at the school of advanced pattern mixing.

Works for me! I think you look fab.

  • Diana replied 12 years ago

I love this! It's advanced pattern mixing but looks very coherent to my eye.

(I think advanced pattern mixing is in general kind of a man repeller look - they just don't get it - and I am OK with this.)

You are Dr. Pattern Mixing Rita.

    LOVE!

There is no pattern that the alluring Dotty cannot charm into submission! (It's better if you say it like a Parisian villainess)

  • Mochi replied 12 years ago

Love it, and trying to think of something Dotty wouldn't go with.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

I think it is completely fab! And I certainly hope Mr. Coworker only ventured his (uneducated) opinion because it was solicited!!

  • DonnaF replied 12 years ago

Perfect! I think if your male co-worker had seen his mother wear the same thing, he would have thought it was fine. Or possibly, if a sister had done this while he was growing up. . .I am assuming that this guy is not metrosexual but is your basic clueless fellow?

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

This works! Amazing experimentation gone right - love it!

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Coworker has pretty typical guy tastes. He is my one man "guy" focus group. I always ask his opinion when i want to know what the guy on the street thinks. I think Diana hit the nail on the head that advanced pattern mixing can be kind of man repeller.

  • Mamapicklejuice replied 12 years ago

Whoops - I guess I am still in kindergarten with typical "man tastes" ! LOL It's a bit much for me, but I do like the individual pieces, if that gets me any extra credit.

Is there pattern mixing summer school for us late bloomers?

This is kick a** Rita (pardon my language)!!! Glad to see you and Dotty bonding!

You are really kicking it these days! Another home run!

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

Amazing! Dotty gets along with everybody.

  • san replied 12 years ago

Yes! Dotty takes it up a notch!

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

Oooh that tickles my toes! Biggest question: Are YOU happy seeing yourself in the mirror with Dotty?

Look, I take your co-worker's point, Rita. Seeing as I am still struggling to pass my remedial class on Popular Perception as Personal Evaluation, I do stress over 'ah! *I* know and my friends know this is fashion-forward, but does it just look silly to most people?' even now. But after years of letting that dress me in the uniform of b-l-a-n-d, I have come to realize that my opinion on how I look counts first, followed by eyes I trust and have common ground with --- which is not to say that popular mainstream perception does not count at all, but that it is in third place. If it goes to first place, since I am *not* mainstream, it just cuts into my own happiness. No point, right?

So I'm voting: as long as Dotty brings that smile to your face, bring her along with everything and everywhere! :-D
