WIW catching up 2/26-3/2

I decided to consolidate this week's WIW's into one post since there's really not much new here and most of these are repeats or remixes in some way.

1) one of two new things here. I was browsing kids clothes for my son and saw this adorable gingham button down for $9 at Target.... it's a boys L and it fits like a women's 4, in case anyone is still looking for the perfect gingham shirt. I wore this out to see my friends' folk band play at a club. I felt totally appropriate in the comfy and slightly country vibe of this outfit.

2) hubby ripped my black puffer. Lucky break for me, I have an excuse to upgrade when I thought I would have to wait until next year. This is the Land's End Essential Down parka and it is on sale right now. Waves at MaryK, I think this is the coat she got for her east coast trip too.

3) NAS jacket and Ann Taylor ponte pants. Oops, I think I gained a little weight, this looks tighter than I imagined it to be in my head. Not sure if I would wear it exactly like this again. The pants seem tight and I feel kind of exposed in skinnies and such a short jacket!

4) Outfit of controversy! I wear it even though it got mixed reviews here on YLF... some say the light boots make the outfit look unbalanced. I think the light colors in the top pull it together. I am posting because I'm trying something new with the cuffs. Does it help to bring the outfit together to have the shirt cuffs peaking out? Waves to Natalie who wore this shirt this week too!

5) Kari's scribble dress has become my go to easy outfit for the winter. I paired it with my new animal bag for a bit of pattern mixing overload. It's a lot of pattern but everything is in the same tones so I felt like it went together.

6) Inspired by Angie's NYFW orange and animal combo, I decided to try out my own version. H&M cropped jacket from last summer, Ann Taylor blouse and skinnies.

7/8) Evolution of a WIW that started out as #7. This seemed to work better in my head but when I saw the pictures it looked like Angie's New New Style Epiphany from April fools day and I had to change my shoes. The top is too short to wear with heels. If I was wearing a tunic, I think it would work better. #8 is how I actually left the house. Wow, this looks so much better with boots!

Suggestions and comments greatly appreciated! I am always inspired by you and learn so much every time I post. Thanks for looking!

Yay! A Rita fashion show. You know, I am SO glad you got the Kari squiggle dress. It looks fantastic on you, and it's also obvious how comfortable and confident you feel in it. Great buy.

Speaking of which...that gingham shirt is adorable! And the Land's End coat looks fantastic on you!! Is this a petite size? And it works for you? I find I am sized out of a lot of their stuff so I am curious.

On #4, I do think it works with the cuffs visible, and you know I am one who was after lighter colours up top. I really like it a lot this way. It's also possible that from this angle the lighter greens etc. of the top are more visible. Anyway, I think you look wonderful here.

Love #6, too! So much fun.

Suz, welcome back, it's so good to have you back here with us :)

I'm glad you like how the light boots outfit turned out. I feel like every time I wear this combo I tweak it just a bit. The Land's End coat is an extra small petite. It fits me perfectly. I think it's selling for $59 right now. It is a very nice warm coat.

Rita, these are all great. The gingham shirt looks great. Its very similar to mine and you have reminded me I should wear it more :).

The puffa is a great length and I love the color on you.

I find you really maintain your style integrity and know well what works for you. I was one who wasn't sure about the light boots with outfit 4 but really it's a preference more than anything as this outfit still looks fabulous. You have a really lovely well put together style Rita.

Holy smokes 100% success rate for you. My faves are #1 and #6. Where is Dotty?
and yes, that's Mary's puffer... Even more amazing and flattering in person!

Great week for you. I love that you can wear a boy's shirt, it looks great. Love the puffer on you, very flattering. I particularly like the orange and animal #6. I love having a go to dress outfit too. So helpful on THOSE days. Your kids are adorable - great MOTG action shot!

You look amazing in your Kari dress.

  • Janet replied 12 years ago

You're looking great in all of these!

I may have once had a hesitation about the light boots with the outfit of controversy, but not now. I really like that outfit a lot. And the scribble dress is amazing on you!

You also have me wanting a gingham shirt now, which I'd never been particularly attracted to before. :-)

Every time I thought I found my favourite, there was another one. I love the light boots with the hot pink and the Missoni shirt. Then, the scribble dress is amazing and suits you so well, and the bag tones in so naturally. The NAS jacket in #3 is wonderfully proportionate with your figure, it's a great look with skinnies. And the smiles on your little ones' faces are priceless.

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Fruitful, this #3 look is actually giving me the biggest pause so I'm glad to hear that it works to your eyes!

Janet, I know how you feel about those gingham shirts. But after seeing Kendi everyday and some other bloggers style it in a million sophisticated different ways, I thought I would give it a go.

  • citygirldc replied 12 years ago

I pretty much like all of your outfits but #1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 are my faves. Looking good lady.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 12 years ago

I like every single one of them.

The gingham shirt is super cute. Have you ever tried the jacket from 2 layered over the squiggle dress? I think they would look great together.

I quite like the light boots with the outfit. They blend in and to me aren't really noticeable. If you had worn a darker color, it might have detracted (if that is possible) from the top of the outfit. I love the bright colors.

These are all fabulous! You wear jeans, skirts and dresses all equally well. I honestly am not able to pick a favourite! The one thing I notice with all of your items Rita is the fit is impeccable. Well done!

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

Rita, you are looking fantabulous! Honestly, I wouldn't change a single thing. What a terrific week! What size puffer did you get, if I may ask?

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Sarah it is the lands end essential down parka in xsmall petite. It is down to$59 and free shipping now.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

I loved #4 from the word go! Smashing outfit :). In fact, I may have given it a K-rating!? Love it with the new bag too!

All your outfits are AMAZING, Rita. Dresses, jackets, jeans, shirts and puffers - you get it and run with it :)

  • rae replied 12 years ago

So great, every one! I have a similar gingham shirt and orange blazer, so I will be coming back here for inspiration. I can't get over how perfect those MM boots are for you. And I only wish I needed a puffer instead of a trench so I could get that awesome one that you and MaryK share!

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

What a fabulous week! I love how creative you are to find clothes in the boy's section! Cute red puffer! You and MaryK both look great in it. You look fine in the ponte pants--still tiny and slim as ever. Love #4!!! Waving back--I love how you matched it with the magenta skirt--perfect! And the light boots are great to keep it from being too dark. Love the scribble dress, orange blazer and black boots too--you had a super stylish week as usual!

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

How thoughtful of hubby to rip your puffer for you so you could get a new one :)! I love that red on you and the fit is perfect! Love the boy's gingham shirt, love the orange jacket, love the "Kari" dress, love everything really! I don't think your last look with the pumps is bad at all, but I see what you mean about a tunic or longer top maybe working better.

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

These are all fab outfits but I especially like #1 and #6. #1, that gingham shirt is perfect on you and is such a versatile piece to have in a closet. #6, I'm really loving animal prints with bright colors right now.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

*Jumping up and down with excitement and waving and my red puffer twin!!*

AND OMG THAT GINGHAM SHIRT!! I was just at Target and bought it in two colors! Can't believe it, but yes! The boys' L goes over my bosoms way better than most ladies' button-front shirts I've tried!! Rita, you are my hero!!

    /all about me

Rita, these outfits are all just too fab for words! You are one chic mama!!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago
