WIW Already one harsh crit

Sorry about the crazy work bathroom mirror pictures! I came downstairs today and my daughter said, "mommy you do NOT look good today." Ack! Please tell me she is just reacting to the fact that I am not wearing a girly dress to work.

I am trying Angie's crop pants advice from yesterday. These are my first pair of skinny's from a few years ago. Here I've rolled them boyfriend style. They're too tight to roll any further. I wore low contrast shoes so my feet wouldn't look like weights at the bottom. Also, check out the top, it is new from Loft. I like the camoflauging effect of the ruffles but if it is too soul sucking I may have to reconsider.

I like it just the way you've styled the outfit. (And that surprises me because i usually don't care for cropped pants.) The nude toned heels keep your legs looking long. I like the top with the jeans, both color and style.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

I like it, too. That top is lovely, so fresh and simple. Looks great for a really hot day. And I think you've got the cropped pant thing working for you, and I am beginning to understand why I felt as if my skinnies looked okay on me rolled but I was less happy about a wider cropped pant.

Is your daughter really into girlie dresses? I would think she would at least admire the top today...so maybe it is a colour issue for her? (I think you look nice in this colour but maybe she has strong colour preferences and you're not meeting them today?)

You've converted me to cropped pants! Like Joy, I don't care for them usually but this is very flattering, you look long, lean and cool. Love the top!

  • Aunty replied 12 years ago

I think you look lovely!! The whole outfit is a winner!!
LOL Try asking the little one how she feel's about it when you are holding a ice cream, I bet she loves it then :)

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

    haha- that is funny
but I have to disagree with your daughter. You look great! I love it :-)

  • rae replied 12 years ago

Your daughter must have her own ideas about what she likes - this outfit looks great to me! The nude heels are great for pairing with the cropped jeans.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

    *chuckle*

I think DD likes a more dressy Mum :)

It's a sweet outfit. The nude shoes save the day!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

I think you look fantastically good! LOVE those nude shoes with the cropped pants!

I think you are spot-on about your little one preferring a dressier Mom!

  • replied 12 years ago

Well, a sparkly pink poofy dress with crinolines would have been better, but this is still a great look!

  • mrseccentric replied 12 years ago

    everyone's a critic. ha!

i love this look, the rolled light wash skinnies with a nude pump make your legs look great! the overall light colors/low contrast look great for a hot day, too. and i'm drooling over that top, thanks for citing the source.

hmm, maybe you and daughter can read Angies' recent 'Smart Casual' blog post together? show her some nice pictures of Angie all dressed up, emphasize to her that 'that pretty lady wrote this article about how to dress nice', & then you can match the pieces of your outfit to Angie's 'Smart Casual' checklist! i think daughter ought to be suitably awed at how dressy Angie looks to be massively b̶r̶a̶i̶n̶w̶a̶s̶h̶e̶d̶ ooops, meant 'persuaded by your powerful, logical argument'.

    heehee! have fun, steph

@ali, tonight I'm going to try something pink just to see what she says. You ladies are a riot, I'm glad you approve!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Modgrl, I'm just coming back to say that your WIW's from the past two days have inspired me to bust out my nude shoes today! Thanks! :-)

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

You look great! Your daughter is reacting to something "new" I'm guessing. My daughter (who is 9) stares at me uncomprehendingly whenever I tuck. "Why are you tucking that in? It looks weird." I think it's because I almost never tuck, and she never tucks, so it seems foreign to her :).

  • Sarah replied 12 years ago

    I think it's adorable! :)

  • Karli replied 12 years ago

Your outfit looks very good. Kids are funny and they do react to things that are not used to:-) thanks for posting.

  • MNsara replied 12 years ago

You look great! Perfect top, great jeans (rolled perfectly), and those nude shoes are spot on!

I also may have to dig out my nudes and give them an outing ;-)

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

I just gave Angie's lesson on how to wear cropped pants to my perplexed co-workers. They've been trying cropped pants and couldn't make it work. Here are the culprits:
wide pants to the calf or wide pants to the ankle with dark heavy closed vamp shoes.

Angie, I think you've inspired a style revolution in my office. Hurray!

  • tarzy replied 12 years ago

I love this outfit! And that top is soooo pretty on you. Lots of soul!
(Honestly, I wouldn't take your daughter's word too much to heart. Listen to the forum!)

I can also imagine this same outfit with dark wash denim (not rolled) or white clams/Bermudas (maybe not for work?) or white denim!

Can you please tell me about the shoes? That's exactly the type of nude shoe I'm looking for.

  • Carolyn replied 12 years ago

Ahh....opinionated kids - gotta love em! I love your look!

  • Beth Ann replied 12 years ago

You look so fresh -- easy and confident. I joined just a couple of months ago, and I've really seen your style grow! As for you daughter -- I have a son and a daughter, both 9. Let me tell you --- boys that age think their Mamas are the most beautiful EVER! Borrow one for afternoon and you'll instantly feel glamorous! My daughter? She came down the stairs yesterday and said...."Mom, look! I'm bookending!" She looked fab, but she's starting to seriously cut into my clothing budget! Sounds like our daughters learn a little bit from Angie, too!

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

Love this. I think it's perfect!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

I think you look absolutely wonderful. :)

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

@Tarzy, These shoes are getting quite a workout this year. They are Target wedges from last summer. They have almost identical ones this year. They are pretty comfy for being plastic.

    http://www.target.com/gp/detai.....&LNM=|B0043R89S6&CPNG=&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B0043R89S6&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

I am flagged on shoes and plastic shoes especially. I am a sucker for Target styles, not just their prices. I need to stick to good leather shoes from now on.

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Rita, I think you look super!!! And I love that you gave your office a crop trouser lesson. Fantastic!

  • Marley replied 12 years ago

Oh I LOVE this look! You look so cute - the blouse with the shoes - ahhhh - I'm going to dress like this today!

  • Sheila replied 12 years ago

Well I think you look amazing, very pulled together, and all I can say about the value of a young daughter's cutting comment is...sorry, but just wait until she's a teenager! They can really dish it out! So on a more positive note, I really appreciate the approach you have taken to this incident, turning it into a positive, enlightening moment for your co-workers. Bravo!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

I think it looks great! It's probably just more casual than your daughter is used to seeing :) Nice job on the cropped-roll. Your caramelly leather jacket would look lovely with this, if you need the extra warm layer.

  • morethanbeige replied 12 years ago

This outfit is a great look for you! Loving the nude shoes and lovely top.

  • ButterflyLady replied 12 years ago

Beautiful! I love the top, so pretty.

  • rute replied 12 years ago

eh eh! I have a girl too and they can be our worst critiques!
You look perfect! Love the cropped pants and the top! That top is amazing!

  • Fruitful replied 12 years ago

I'm surprised how much I like this. I'm not a big fan of cropped pants but with the right proportions and styling they look amazing. The roll combined with the peeptoes just works - there's a kind of casual 50s fabulousness about it. (Think of the chicks in the movie "Crybaby" - I'm sure there's more authentic examples too!)

I always ignore my kids taste in my clothes. But I don't have girls - that could be harder! Oh yeah, I also laugh when he tells me "You're the worst Mum in the world!" If he doesn't like everything I do then I reckon I'm doing something right, LOL!

  • CK replied 12 years ago

    Great outfit! I love it.

And just call those shoes "vegan." Sounds much better than plastic. ;-)

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

I really like this outfit. The top is very pretty and the cropped pant length works for me here.
