I didn't listen to YLF

I wanted this Tom Ford copy cat dress....

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....bebe-dress

Thought I would wear it to my Russian restaurant parties.

I tried it on last night and I simply do not like it anymore. Ugh!

After two years on YLF, I am still making shopping mistakes! I am so mad at myself. I could have bought a dress that I would actually wear for the money I spent on this thing!!

Commiserating with you. I think we've all experienced this--that's why I have a hard time cutting tags without YLF approval. I have a couple of things that I wish I posted K/R on myself. Don't beat yourself up over it. You look pretty darn sassy!

I doubt that even Angie has never purchased an item and had regrets later. I doubt any of us will ever get to the point that we never make mistakes. It just happens.

You have great fashion sense so don't let it shake your confidence at all.

Thanks Kelly! I am still too swayed by my heart. I see something in the mirror that my mind knows is not quite right but my heart drowns out the logic - CUT THE TAGS - it always screams!!

I do the same thing too. When I bought by BB shirts, Angie told me to size up. I was lazy and did not want to got thru the hassle of exchanging... and snippety snip, I cut the tags. I ended up giving the smaller ones to my daughter and had to rebuy the right size Agh...

    I'm sorry.

LOL! So funny. At least you aren't wishy washy like me. I go back and forth, ad infinitum. "Cut the tags...no, wait, maybe not...definitely return...but it is so cute...."

Yeah, to be honest I didn't like it either :) But I remember it was cheap!

Don't sweat it. I have made much more costly sartorial screwups. Haven't we all? Your wardrobe is mostly pretty damn awesome so chalk it up to experience....

HUGS, Rita. Sometimes we are just feeling pushed to the wall and do the BBQ thing, and sometimes a good price convinces us over our better wisdom. I remember this one....but hey, I have made big mistakes and my solution was passing the stuff along to YLF friends who would look better in it/ find a use for it/ had a better climate for it.

And you have had far more shopping successes than failures. I think we ALL continue to make mistakes.

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

LOL, Mochi, I'm not sure if you are remembering correctly... the dress wasn't cheap but I look cheap in it

  • ironkurtin replied 11 years ago

Rita, you do not look cheap.

I routinely ignore YLF. Can't say it's backfired much either! Sorry to hear it did on you.

Side note which is completely irrelevant: You do not look cheap. I have been to Russian banquets. This is a very appropiate frock for the event. I would never wear the "standard issue YLF frock" for those things, I would look like a nun. I go "hoochie" darling. Same for Colombian parties. You gotta dress the part.

Yes, I feel your pain. Almost anything I have kept without YLF approval has become an orphan. Live and learn.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Rita, don't be too hard on yourself. We've all been there, and you are still a super stylish lady!

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

    Whoops, LOL

But remember, I don't think you look cheap.

Was just thinking about this--your instincts are usually spot on, so when something unusual comes up, like this dress, it throws me and I figure you must have your reasons. Anyway, it's not the greatest dress but I'm sure you can figure a way to improve it I'm sure Claire could perform some DIY miracle here.

Don't obsess over the money. Do you know how much people spend on lattes alone? Everyone messes up sometimes and this wasn't even disastrous by a long shot.

I may be the only one who does not know...what is a Russian banquet? Is this a special format for a party, or simply a restaurant that serves Russian cuisine?

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

How does this dress look with your tuxedo jacket?

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Consign it. The store will love you.

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

@Joy, the peplum interferes with the tux jacket. They don't look good together.

@Sheila, people tend to really dress up for a Russian restaurant banquet, much more so than a normal American event. Anything that you would consider wearing in daylight would not be appropriate. The tighter, sparklier and shorter the better. Bling is king.
